Liam Smith

Fitness research writer and founder of Apexfito. I translate sports science into practical training advice for busy adults — and I test the gear I recommend.

About Liam

I started Apexfito with a simple frustration: too much fitness advice online is either scientifically outdated or written for people who already know what they’re doing. I wanted a place where a busy professional could find the honest answer to “what should I actually do in the gym?” — without the hype.

I’ve spent years studying applied exercise science, coaching beginners in person and online, and testing home gym equipment at my own desk-turned-rack. Every article on this site goes through the same three filters:

  • Evidence over hype — recommendations grounded in sports science from organizations like the ACSM, NSCA, and ISSN.
  • Simplicity over complexity — programs designed for busy, real-world schedules, not hypothetical athletes.
  • Honesty over sales — I tell you what you need, what you don’t, and exactly how I test the gear I review.

What I Cover

My writing focuses on the fundamentals that actually move the needle:

  • Strength training technique (squats, deadlifts, presses, pull-ups)
  • Fat loss and nutrition basics without the cult mentality
  • Home gym setup and honest gear reviews
  • Training for busy adults, beginners, and those over 40

How I Research and Test

Each article cites peer-reviewed research or established professional guidelines where claims are made. Gear reviews are based on hands-on testing at home: I buy or borrow the equipment, train with it for weeks, and report what actually holds up — including the flaws.

Affiliate disclosure: some links in my articles are affiliate links. If you buy through them, I may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. This never influences what I recommend — in fact, it’s why I can afford to test gear properly.
